A return to roots.

Cyprus has been on the retreat home bucket list for some time. The warmth & energy of the motherland has been one that has forever rooted our family but still feels like a breath of fresh air to return to no matter how many times we step off the plane home. So it’s no wonder this has become the next chosen place to share the practices closest to our heart, and we’ve found the perfect spot.

With stories, lineage & family traditions close to our heart, we look forward to sharing a glimpse of the Cypriot story with you, whilst bringing our own favourite practices of yoga & movement to the retreat space to start and end each day.

We hope, just like us, this place brings you home.

Your Host & Yoga Teacher

Zoë Markos-Thresher

South East London Yoga Teacher, Zoë Markos-Thresher, will be your host and yoga facilitator throughout the retreat guiding you through daily yoga practices which are inspired by over 500 hours of training accumulated in the styles of Vinyasa, Mandala, Rocket, Yin, Pre + Post Natal. Zoë’s intention for this retreat is to create time & space within our practice to first connect with ourselves, to then immerse into the village life that surrounds us in her second home of Cyprus.

Morning practice will be dedicated to more dynamic styles, There’s time to dip your toe into several types of asana practice when on retreat with Zoë; whether you find your calling in a creative vinyasa, a powerful rocket, or a flowy mandala class. Each carry their own flavour and this retreat container becomes the perfect place to lean into all things movement and find what truly speaks to you.

Evenings will see us wind down with a slow, soft & mindful yin practice - known for its’ nervous system benefits, aid with sleep and deep fascial tissue work. But most importantly, food for thought and inspiring philosophies of yoga will be the narrative that carries the practice. Whilst your body leans into the movement and breath, Zoë also loves to give you something to think about on your way home.

Our hope is that you leave this retreat capsule having felt new connection to yourself through your practice, with a full cup you can take back home with you and hopefully a new friendship or two along the way. Cyprus is our special place, and we just know you will love it as much as we do.

We so hope to meet you on retreat sometime soon,

love Zoë x

Guest Teacher

Dora Jones

With over 30 years of experience in the fitness and wellness industry, Dora has had a long and successful career as a trainer across several different disciplines, sharing her teachings, guidance and advice across platforms such as Good Morning Britain and several fitness DVD’s over the years.

Nowadays, she continues to inspire and share her practices with local communities in Kent to her very loyal, loving and longstanding community who continue to be the reason why Dora continues to teach and pioneer for a healthy, balanced and holistic approach to movement and fitness.

You’ll find on our timetable Dora’s own take on pilates in her playful, energising and upbeat classes but also a nod to the more classical form of the discipline. We will of course have time for both when on retreat.

As a mother-daughter duo, we hope to bring our shared love for movement to the retreat space to inspire you with in all forms, doing what we do best!

Yoga & Pilates

When Zoë & Dora host together, mother & daughter style, we like to get a little creative with our schedule. On the movement menu there will be two 90 minute classes per day, morning & evening. Our mornings are always dedicated to yoga practice as we rise; here you’ll move through the more dynamic expressions of asana practice exploring mandala, rocket and vinyasa with each class grounded in philosophy & intention.

In the evening we will split the class into two parts and create a fusion of two disciplines. This could look something like a 30 minute barre pilates style class into a 60 minute grounding traditional yin yoga practice, or perhaps even a 45 minute classical pilates into a deep stretch or yin class to close the day.

We like to keep our timetable open to creativity as we join forces and bring together unique blends of movement practice and hopefully offer you something new you’ve perhaps not tried before.

“A perfect and wholesome retreat in a stunning setting. Zoë and Dora are not only brilliant teachers, but warm hosts with positive energy. Group practice was always well-guided and inclusive for all levels, but still bringing a challenging element. Food and activities like wine tasting and cooking classes were all spectacular. I can’t wait to retreat with Zoë and Dora again!”

Additional Activities

Arts & Crafts

The village of Lefkara is best known for its’ lace making traditions. Often you will see a yiayia (a grandmother) perched on her front doorstep creating a traditional lace table cloth which feels like a glimpse into the past and adds to the charm of this already quaint little village.

On retreat we want to explore & celebrate local traditions; whether that’s a lace making class, a pottery workshop, olive oil tasting, essential oil making or a local wine tasting. There’s so much craft born from this small little Cypriot mountain village and we are so excited to connect to the roots, lineage & people of Lefkara during our time here. We might not have time for everything, but we’ll see what takes people’s fancy the most.

Hiking

We are perfectly located at the foothill of several amazing hikes right from our doorstep to viewpoints of Lefkara and surrounding mountain villages.

As part of our retreat we will explore 2-3 routes on foot to take a peek at the beautiful scenery pictured right here. This is all totally optional of course, you’re more than welcome to kick your feet up at the hotel pool instead for a bit of you time. But if you like to keep things active we’re truly spoilt for choice with nature & trails surrounding the hotel.

Oh, and if you’re a keen cyclist, remember to bring your cleats and hire a bike from the hotel to explore the area on wheels instead.

Open Air Cinema

With The Agora’s open air cinema night becoming one of our all time favourite wind-down activities for any day, we couldn’t not include it as a part of the retreat experience. There’s always something so special, nostalgic & romantic about getting tucked up and watching a movie classic under the stars. We already look forward to this night very much.

Take a look at the open air cinema experience via the button below.
